Dear Reader,
Another month has already passed and our web site has a number of new articles and features that I am sure you will find interesting. Although the weather is good and the roads are dry, remember when driving on marrum use extra caution - as a dry dusty road can be as dangerous as when wet. Don't fall into a false sense of security.
If you have been reading the papers lately, you'll know there seems to be an exceptionally high number of head-on-collisions this month. Most are the result of people overtaking on a blind corner /bend. Since you know it can happen - plan for it. Have an action plan of "what to do if ...". It's an important part of defensive driving and our security training. Remember, the 5 P's - Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance - the same applies to driving.
Security Training & Awareness Levels

Regarding the on going insecurity up-country, if your national and or international staff are driving in these areas and you would like to minimise the risk then please contact us as training does make a difference. Security Updates
We have had no new reports this month. Part of the reason, I think is most of the focus seems to be with the continuing problems upcountry. Also, the police seem to be cracking down hard on the local gangs - so Kampala actually seems to be "quiet". Also, just a reminder, if you have been involved in a vehicle related crime - even if it was over 6 months ago - please take the time to post it. This is a community crime prevention programme and depends on your input to be successful. See Reports>>

Mechanically Speaking ... (Postings From Our Forum)
QUESTION: Why do reconditioned cars give out that black smoke from the exhaust- especially when in the low-gear. This happens despite having taken the car to 2 reputable garages and a private mechanic.
ANSWER: The word "reconditioned" when applied to vehicles brought second hand from Japan relates more to the aesthetics rather than the mechanics!! Therefore, IMHO, the engine will not have been overhauled but in fact has more miles on it that is registered on the odometer. Unfortunately this practice is rife in this type of business. In my experience the excessive black smoke is usually down to two things. Read More>>

WHO Announces Road Safety Day
It was recently announced by The World Health Organisation (WHO) that World Health Day for the year 2004 will be dedicated to "Safe Roads". Road safety issues have always been hovering around in the background of humanitarian issues and at last a major organisation is bringing it to the forefront.
