Consider the Hi-lift Jack
Consider the Hi-lift Jack
A while ago I wrote an article on winches and asked the question as to their viability. In the article, I discussed that unless you were a complete 4wd nutter like myself or working / living in an environment where you are likely to get stuck on a near daily basis then -- pretty much a waste of money. One piece of equipment that is, in my opinion, invaluable is the high-lift jack.
Driving in Kenya
Driving in Kenya
I just came back from Kenya last week - the drive from the border to Nairobi is really bad. We saw over 15 turned semi trailers, trucks, rolled cars, accidents on the round trip. Also, when driving in Kenya, you not only have to be aware of the driving hazards, such as a truck driving towards you in your lane, but be aware of the potential for car-jackings. The security concerns (robbery, carjacking) have escalated to the point where people are asking not if but when they will be targeted. The crime is also often violent. To put it in context, I saw one banner in a Nairobi suburb, put up by the Police saying - if you get a flat tyre ride the rim; save lives not tyres . Wish I got a photo of that one!
The attackers are very daring - attacks can occur any time of day (and obviously at night) and can include busy roads with constant traffic. No place or time is safe. I hope the new anti-crime initiative by the police will work. Security information and updates of the situation are here on the FCO web site.
