Armoured Vehicle Operation Course

Armoured Vehicle (AV) training carried in a private and safe environment; this course familiarises you with the changes in dynamics and handling which the armouring produces.

To be prepared regardless of the road conditions /threats; for normal day-to-day driving on sealed or unsealed surfaces; in a harsh and hostile environment.

Module: Introduction to 4wd Defensive Driving

• Introduction to 4wd Systems.
• "Situation-specific" hazard-awareness drills.
• Understanding reaction distance.
• Understanding road surfaces, camber’s negative effects and vehicle dynamics.
• Learning to manage the steer /brake trade-off; including emergency braking and controlled braking exercises.
• Understanding the System of Vehicle Control and the Accident Prevention Formula.

Module: The Proactive Mindset (Incident Avoidance)

• Avoidance through awareness; developing a pro-active mindset.
• Carry out effective threat and risk assessment and analysis.
• Route planning; identifying choke points, alternative routes and safe havens.
• Understanding the decision making process, awareness levels and the effects of survival stress.

Module: Identifying Changes in Dynamics with respect to AVs

• Vehicle inspections; relating specifically to armoured vehicles.
• Weight transfer with respect to dynamic movements and loading the vehicle.
• Tyres; pressures and limits of adhesions.
• Correct cornering and steering techniques.
• Understanding and countering over-steer and under-steer.
• Braking techniques; stopping distances, progressive braking, emergency braking.

Module: Protective Driving

• Driving styles; defensive and responsive.
• Surveillance detection and pre-incident indicators.
• Understanding and countering ambushes.
• Barricade ramming.
• Dealing with road blocks /check points.

• Price: US$ 2,395.00 per Student (includes use of a 4wd armoured training vehicle).
• Price: US$ 1,875.00 per Student (if you bring your 4wd AV).
• Rate exclusive of 18% VAT.
• Discount rates are available for groups of 10 or more students.

Group sizes: We require a minimum of 5 attendees to conduct a class outside of the regularly posted schedule. Our maximum class size is 8 students. Any additional students we recommend you move into a second session.
