4wd Defensive Driving Course

Drive to the conditions. An unsealed road is unstable and dangerous. Particularly when the road surface is dry, drivers become overconfident and mistakenly feel in control.

Vehicle rollovers are often caused by skids, which are caused by excessive speed for the circumstances, over-steering in relation to speed (which may not be excessive), harsh acceleration, or sudden and excessive braking.

This driving course is designed specifically for people who operate 4wd’s on unsealed roads in urban and rural areas.

Module: Introduction to 4wd Defensive Driving

  • Introduction to 4wd Systems.
  • "Situation-specific" hazard-awareness drills.
  • Understanding reaction distance.
  • Understanding road surfaces, camber’s negative effects and vehicle dynamics.
  • Learning to manage the steer /brake trade-off; including emergency braking and controlled braking exercises.
  • Understanding the System of Vehicle Control and the Accident Prevention Formula.

  • Price: US$ 245.00 per Student (includes use of a 4wd training vehicle).
  • Price: US$ 180.00 per Student (if you bring your 4wd).
  • Rate exclusive of 18% VAT.
  • Discount rates are available for groups of 10 or more students.

Group sizes: We require a minimum of 5 attendees to conduct a class outside of the regularly posted schedule. Our maximum class size is 8 students. Any additional students we recommend you move into a second session.

Being on the equator means we have a fairly consistent tropical weather pattern. So, whether it’s dry /dusty or rainy /muddy, we've got it covered.

OnCourse 4wd Courses were designed in conjunction with Duncan's Off-Road 4wd Driver Training Company, Australia. The courses were then tailored by Mick Farmer based on his experience working and training in this region.
