4wd Defensive Driving Course
Learning to negotiate off-road driving hazards: An unsealed road surface is unstable and extremely dangerous. Particularly, when road surfaces are dry, drivers become overconfident and mistakenly feel in control.
Vehicle rollovers often are caused by skids, which are caused by excessive speed for the circumstances, over-steering in relation to speed (which may not be excessive), harsh acceleration, or sudden and excessive braking.
This driving course is designed specifically for people who operate 4wd’s on an unsealed road surface in urban and rural areas. Learn to drive to the conditions.
Driving Course Modules Include:
- Introduction to 4wd Systems; correctly engaging and disengaging 4wd.
- “Situation-specific” hazard-awareness drills.
- Understanding safe stopping distances and avoiding /correcting skids.
- Understanding road /camber and camber’s negative effects, vehicle dynamics in off-road situations.
- Learning to handle the steering /braking trade-off, including emergency braking and controlled braking exercises.
