Professional Driving Course
This popular “back-to-basics” defensive driving course, on sealed and unsealed road surfaces, is primarily for professional drivers. Our assessments have shown that many drivers have not been trained properly /sufficiently; most cannot reverse, conceive visually, and steer properly when looking over the shoulder. These are essential skills for safe driving.
In this course, emphasis is on the importance of critical self-awareness, driver responsibility, hazard awareness, and space management. To date, all employers have commented on their drivers’ significant improvements from this course. We guarantee you will, too!
Driving Course Modules Include:
Day 1: Developing The Right Attitude & Awareness:
- Becoming a better driver; driving attitudes & responsibility, characteristics of a good driver, aspects of critical self-awareness, daily driving assessment techniques.
- Vehicle inspections; methods of inspecting vehicles on a daily basis, cockpit drill.
- Observation and anticipation; understanding hazards, grading a risk, making observation links, different systems for scanning the environment, zones of visibility, correct use of mirrors.
- Safe steering /cornering techniques; push-pull steering technique, peripheral vision, depth perception, smooth /correct steering, apex cornering.
Day 2: System of Vehicle Control
- Space management and planning; stopping distances, progressive braking, emergency braking, follow position & procedures, overtaking position & procedure, turning position & procedures, round-about procedures.
- Reversing and manoeuvring.
- Vehicle dynamics and collision avoidance; tyre - grip trade off, weight distribution, acceleration & vehicle balance, 5 phases of vehicle control.
Day 3: Introduction to 4wd Driving
- Correctly engaging and disengaging 4wd.
- Understanding safe stopping distances and avoiding /correcting skids.
- Learning to handle the steering /braking trade-off, including emergency braking and controlled braking exercises.
