July 2002- Launch of Online Support!
Kampala, UGANDA - June 26, 2002
On Course Uganda (OCUL) announces it has launched a free online driver support service aimed at anyone, planning to visit or work, and already working in East Africa.
It’s technical staff are available online to answer questions relating to driving a 4x4 in Africa. From, buying a vehicle for the region, to giving technical advice.
"There is a real shortage of information online relating to this subject. People are finding out too late which car they should be buying or which features to consider," discusses Mick Farmer, the Training Director at OCUL. "Our aim is to teach people about safe and responsible 4wd-ing. This is a beautiful part of the world, but when you are driving in the bush, you need a completely different set of driving skills than in the city. At On Course we want people to enjoy Uganda and East Africa as a whole by being properly prepared."
Mick Farmer suggests. "The simpler the vehicle the easier it is to fix. There is no point in buying the latest model of car and shipping it out, you will most likely find that the parts are unavailable or no one knows how to fix it. (Although the situation is improving). The local mechanic under the mango tree isn't going to have a computer to hook up your ABS brake system for diagnostics!"
The OnCourse4wd.com Web site includes a growing library of driving resources, articles, security alerts, forum, Q&A, online driver support and much more. OCUL is a driver-training outfit based in Kampala, Uganda. It teaches driving courses designed for African road conditions and hazards. They have over 10 years operating in East Africa and Southern Sudan and have trained humanitarian aid organisations, embassies, corporations, vehicle dealers, professional drivers and 4wd vehicle owners.
