September 2002 - Uganda Police Training
Kampala, UGANDA - September 12, 2002 - 4wd Vehicle Familiarisation Training. Drivers for top brass in the Uganda Police Force underwent a 1-day vehicle familiarisation course conducted by On Course Uganda (OCUL).
The Police had recently received 6 Toyota Prados with automatic transmission. The drivers requested that they be trained to operate the vehicles correctly. The training modules included basic vehicle maintenance, hazard awareness, how to tackle rough terrain and driving on loose surfaces. The overall response from the drivers was positive and they hoped that further training would be conducted in the future.
OCUL volunteered it's expertise to provide the training as a show of solidarity with the Police Force of both parties commitment to road safety.
As Covered By The New Vision Newspaper - October 9, 2002 - Course Boosts Driver's Skills By Steven Candia: “I thought I was an expert driver until the training. But now I understand the traffic rules.” This was an open confession of an excited driver of a senior Police officer. The man who preferred anomity, seemingly overwhelmed by the certificate he acquired after training, kept on glancing at it before trotting off to join his colleagues and senior police officers for a group photograph.
“All I can tell you is that I am a driver of a director in the Police Force,” were the last words he uttered as he trotted on. He was among three others in the office of the acting commissioner of Police in-charge of human resource development, Frederick Yiga, to receive certificates for successfully completing the course.
The officers underwent a one-day training course in defensive and off-road driving at Kajjansi Airstrip. The course was supervised by Mick Farmer the training director, On Course Uganda Ltd., a firm specialised in offering driving courses designed for African roads.
