Training FAQ's

How often should I retrain?

Driving is a lifetime skill; we recommend that drivers renew refresh and renew their skills every 12 to 18 months. Continuance training is a vital aspect of driver training as with any other life skill.

Can I damage my vehicle?

We will not let you use your 4wd on any obstacle that can damage your vehicle. Students are at risk only if they do not follow the directions of the instructor. Also, remember: These obstacles mirror road conditions that you will find in this region - you are learning to handle "real life" situations.

What time does the class start and finish?

We meet at 09:00. The day ends when all training has been completed. This is usually around 16:00-17:00, but we have been known to be running until 18:00, depending on the level of student participation.

What do I need to bring?

Your 4wd (but we also have some for hire), sunscreen, insect repellant, and good shoes/boots. No wellingtons /gum boots, open toed sandals, or bare feet. We provide training handouts, water, tea, coffee, snacks, and a light lunch.

Can you provide a 4wd for training?

Yes, we can. But where possible, we recommend that drivers use their own vehicle in order to get to know its capabilities and limitations. We provide a 4wd on any obstacles or courses where there may be a risk of damage such as on the Protective Driving Course.

Are your courses competency based?

Some courses are competency based; students will be required to demonstrate competency to a set standard within each module. Assessment criteria are designed to test knowledge, skills and attitude of the trainee. Students must successfully complete all modules per course to receive a Certificate of Attainment. Those students, who have not yet achieved, will receive a Certificate of Attendance. The student must be aware of relevant safety issues in all situations and is required to demonstrate safe working practices at all times.
